Abstract

Contemporary medical education is at a critical juncture, where scientific and technological advances in healthcare must be integrated with a comprehensive understanding of health as a biological, social, environmental, and ethical phenomenon. The One Health approach, which highlights the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, emerges as a crucial paradigm in this context. Addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequalities demands a transdisciplinary educational model, emphasizing research, collaboration, and evidence-based policies. Medical professionals are no longer only tasked with curing diseases but must also advocate for planetary health, sustainability, and social justice. This editorial reaffirms the commitment of the San Gregorio University of Portoviejo to a medical education that bridges the gap between scientific knowledge and humanistic values, fostering a generation of healthcare professionals capable of confronting contemporary health challenges and advancing global well-being.
